Man rapes girlfriend's 12-year-old daughter

A CHITUNGWIZA man, who raped his girlfriend's 12-year-old daughter while the mother went to the market, will spend the next nine years behind bars. Appearing before Chitungwiza regional magistrate
Mr Temba Kuwanda, Furesi Yakulu (40) denied the rape charge but was convicted after a full trial.
Mr Kuwanda sentenced him to 15 years in prison but set aside six years on condition of good behaviour.
Prosecutor Ms Joice Fusire proved that in December 2008, the girl came to Chitungwiza on school holidays to see her mother.
During her stay, on a date unknown to the prosecutor, Yakulu was watching televison with the girl and her three friends.
After a while, the girl's friends decided to go and play outside and he called her into her mother's bedroom.
Once inside, the court heard that Yakulu threatened the girl that if she revealed what he wanted to do to her she would get arrested.
He instructed her to remain silent as he raped her.
After the act, he went to his place only to come back holding some fresh chips that he gave to the girl.
The girl later revealed the incident to her mother.
The mother went to report the matter to the police leading to Yakulu's arrest.
