President Robert Mugabe turns 89 on Thursday and his birthday which comes on February the 21st has become a momentous occasion for his Zanu-PF followers.
Politburo member and veteran freedom fighter, Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube says more is needed to impart President Mugabe's values to the young people of Zimbabwe so that the history of selfless dedication to liberate the country is eternally preserved.
"He passed through prisons, through a war and now has ushered the nation into another revolution of land," he said.
Politburo member, Dr Sikhanyiso Ndhlovu says celebrating President Mugabe's birthday would not be complete without mentioning his contributions to education which have resulted in a very high literacy rate for Zimbabwe.
President Mugabe was born on 21 February 1924. Going through a protracted liberation struggle that brought the country's independence in 1980, he became the first prime minister of the new republic of Zimbabwe.
He became Executive President in December 1987.
As President, he has championed causes that have resulted in the empowerment of a previously marginalized black population while leading an agrarian revolution that has given the majority of Zimbabwe's land to indigenous citizens.
