A Harare man who had a tendency of stealing money from his wife to buy an illicit brew popularly known as Zed yesterday tripped and fainted at the civil court.

Samson Katswanda (63) tripped on the verandah of the court where he was brought by his wife Esnath Katswanda who was seeking a protection order against him.

After leaving the courtroom, a loud thud was heard after his head bounced onto the concrete verandah.

Samson's relatives and a police officer rushed to take off his shoes, stockings and started loosening his clothes while he was shaking violently.

Esnath said his husband always fainted after taking the illicit brew.

Samson was resucitated by his wife with the help of the police.

In court, Esnath said Samson assaulted her whenever he drank Zed.

"He beats me up and has a habit of searching all my clothes at home during my absence, especially after I leave for the market where I am a vendor," said Esnath.
