PM Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday dispatched one of his top aides to lobby Sadc leaders to intervene in Zimbabwe amid escalating tension in the inclusive government over rising political violence.
Cabinet on Tuesday reportedly spent more than four hours deliberating on reports of suspected political violence at the weekend that led to the death of a 12-year-old Headlands boy.
MDC-T wants Sadc to intervene on the basis that the political situation in the country is deteriorating. President Mugabe has reportedly demanded a non partisan investigation from the police to establish the cause of the Headlands fire.
Meanwhile, government linked media accuses MDC-T of hijaking hijacked the funeral of Christpower Maisiri of Headlands, who died in an inferno last Saturday night amid calls by Cabinet for law enforcers to get to the bottom of the fatal incident.
Preliminary police investigations have ruled out foul play.
Yesterday, MDC-T supporters erected a barricade on the road leading to the deceased's homestead.
Posters campaigning for their party leader Morgan Tsvangirai could be seen all over. However, in a statement yesterday, Media, Information and Publicity Minister Webster Shamu said Cabinet had instructed law enforcers to investigate the matter.
