Seven people were injured on Thursday after a commuter omnibus they were travelling on was involved in an accident with a lorry at the intersection of Highglen and Kambuzuma Roads in Harare.

Barely four days after a road accident involving two commuter buses and a haulage truck claimed seven lives, seven other people escaped death by a whisker after a lorry rammed into the vehicle they were travelling in.

According to some of the passengers, the Nissan UD truck, which was travelling from Kuwadzana towards Highfield, rammed into the commuter bus which was travelling to the city centre from Mufakose.

The witnesses suspect that the truck's brakes might have failed.

The truck driver could not produce a valid driver's licence.

According to statistics from the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe, most of the accidents that occur on the country's roads are avoidable.

Monday's accident along Airport Road is also thought to have been caused by human error.
