Former MDC member and Masvingo mayor Eng. Chaimiti laid to rest

Addressing mourners at a church service during the burial of Engineer Chaimiti at the St Peter and Paul Cathedral in Masvingo yesterday Morgan Tsvangirai said the party his has lost a true legend who worked tirelessly towards the development of the ancient city (Masvingo). 
He said Eng. Chaimiti, who was the MDC Secretary for Local Government, left a legacy that should be followed by all party members. Eng. Chaimiti died at a local clinic in Masvingo last Thursday after a long battle with diabetes. 
"Engineer Chaimiti was a highly unifying figure in the MDC family and I knew him as an individual who desired peace and reconciliation. "He was an inspirational figure who will be missed by all of us; we should therefore follow his example. He was a humble and hardworking figure who was willing to learn from others. We have lost an influential leader who had a lot of passion for the MDC and all party members must take a leaf from the late former Mayor's illustrious political career," Tsvangirai said.
The current Mayor for Masvingo, Alderman Femias Chakabuda said the late engineer immensely contributed towards the development of the city of Masvingo. 
"The late Engineer Chaimiti worked tirelessly to improve the road network system, water and sanitary facilities in the city and we should feel ashamed if we are to spoil the record he set,"said Chakabuda.
The MP for Masvingo urban Tongai Matutu chronicled the legacy left by Engineer Chaimiti. MDC chairperson for Masvingo province Wilstaff Sitemere described the late Engineer Chaimiti as a mentor and great advisor. Senior party officials, MPs and councillors including national organizing secretary Eng. Elias Mudzuri and National party spokesperson Nelson Chamisa attended the burial ceremony. 
Engineer Chaimiti who was born on April 5 1948 is survived with a wife and four children and was laid to rest at Pioneer Cemetery on the outskirts of the city centre yesterday.
