A Kwekwe man will have to spend the next 30 years in prison after he was found guilty of raping his 13-year-old niece on four different occasions and threatening to kill her if she reported the matter.
The 29-year old man who resides in Mbizo Section 4, Kwekwe, pleaded guilty to the first two counts of rape and not guilty to the other two when he appeared on Thursday before Gokwe magistrate, Mr Amos Mbobo.
Both the complainant and the convicted man's names were being withheld to protect the victim.
The man was slapped with a 30-year jail sentence after a full trial.
He will however, serve an effective 20 years after 10 were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
For the State, Mr Robert Ndlala told the court that on the period not known to the prosecutor but sometime in May 2012, the man stayed in the same house with the victim at his sister's place.
Mr Ndlala said the man raped his niece twice on two different occasions.
The court heard that Mukani then moved out of his sister's house and went to a distant place in the same neighbourhood for reasons not known.
Mr Ndlala told the court that one day the man's sister sent her daughter to ask for a bicycle pump at his place.
The court heard that on that day, the man raped the 13-year old girl again.
Mr Ndlala said on another occasion the girl's mother then sent her daughter to ask for a phone charger from her uncle where the man dragged the girl into his bedroom and raped her again.
The court heard that the man threatened to kill her if she reported the incident to anyone.
Mr Ndlala said the 13-year-old girl then became sick and was taken to Kwekwe District Hospital where she revealed that she was raped.
He said this led to the arrest of the man.
