MDC-T leader and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai will headline a 'Yes' campaign rally in Gweru on Saturday as the party continues to canvass for national endorsement of the country's draft new constitution.

The party said the Gweru event marks the launch of the party's national campaign to urge supporters to back the charter which, it hopes, will help ensure free and fair elections later this year.

"Tsvangirai will .... be the main speaker at the 'Vote Yes' national launch at Mkoba Stadium in Gweru. The national launch is a culmination of the provincial launches that were held by the national leadership last weekend," the party said in a statement Friday.

Zimbabweans will vote in a referendum on the draft new constitution on March 16 with elections to replace the coalition government expected later in the year.

The MDC formations are urging supporters to back the 160-page draft which was crafted over a lengthy and often delayed process which cost some $45 million.

The process had teetered on the brink of collapse over disagreements between the parties until President Robert Mugabe reached a deal over the sticking issues with the MDC formations early this year.
