The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) says the country's grain reserves are low but efforts are being made to ensure that stocks will be boosted in the face of an imminent drought.
GMB Chief Executive Officer, Albert Mandizha told Zbc during their annual general meeting that grain stocks in its reserves are running low.
He said the situation is normal during this time of the year but they are coming up with strategies to replenish the stocks before a crisis hits the nation.
"We are in the process of analysing our stocks but what we can tell you is that the stocks are depressed at the moment," Mr Mandizha said.
At present, the grain loan scheme which was providing grain for the communities in the drought stricken areas is said to be moving at a slow pace as it has been affected by the depressed stocks.
In an interview with ZBC News, the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe emphasised the need for the agricultural sector to get financial support and improve the country's food security.
