Three people lost cash and valuables to two armed robbers who are reportedly terrorising residents in and around the city as robbery cases continue unabated.
According to police reports, the two raid people's homes during the night while armed with a pistol. Police have since launched a manhunt for the two armed robbers.
Acting Harare provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tarirai Dube yesterday warned the public to be wary of these criminals.
She said in one of the incidents, a security guard lost a Nokia cellphone over the weekend to the two armed robbers in the Avenues area.
"The two, who were wearing masks, approached the security guard who was manning the house at around 11pm before pointing a gun at him. They then used his belt to tie his hands and force marched him to the main house," Asst Insp Dube said.
The guard was ordered to knock on the window to the bedroom where the owner of the house was sleeping.
It is alleged that the owner opened the window and one of the robbers pointed a gun at her but she fell down and screamed for help.
The robbers then stole a Nokia 1200 cellphone before fleeing.
Two men lost US$1 300 in separate incidents at a house in Hatfield over the weekend after two armed robbers who were wearing masks raided their house while they were sleeping.
The robbers gained entry into the house through an unlocked door and approached one of the victims who was asleep.
They pointed a gun at him and demanded cash and the man surrendered US$600 cash.
Asst Insp Dube said after robbing them they went into another bedroom where they confronted the second victim and stole US$700 which was in a wallet before they disappeared.
"We would want to urge the public to ensure that they put adequate security measures at their homes to avoid such cases.
"They should also notify the police on time so that they will react swiftly," she said.
Last week, a lone armed robber threatened to rape his victim if she refused to hand over her car keys and cash, alleging that he was HIV positive, in one of five cases of armed robbery reported in the city.
The Borrowdale woman lost her Honda Ballade worth US$13 000, US$700 cash and gold necklaces to the armed robber who broke into her house while she was asleep.
She was one of the five victims of armed robbery in the city who lost cars, cash, cellphones and valuables at gunpoint in separate incidents reported.
