Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku has sworn in two Labour Court presidents, Ms Emilia Muchawa and Ms Philder Muzofa at the Supreme Court in the capital.

The swearing in of Ms Muchawa and Ms Muzofa brings the number of Labour Court presidents to 14.

Chief Justice Chidyausiku swore in the Labour Court presidents in terms of section 92(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe as read with Section 84 of the Labour Act after consultation with the Judiciary Services Commission.

First to take the oath of office was Ms Muchawa, who is a former Director of the Zimbabwe Women Lawyers Association where she worked for 10 years.

She also worked for Zimbabwe Legal Resources Foundation for another 10 years.

Second to take the oath of office was Ms Muzofa, who worked as a Public Prosecutor from 1992 to 2004 before working for Zimbabwe Women Lawyers Association between 2005 and 2010.

In 2011 up to 20012 she was in private practice.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs Patrick Chinamasa says there is still need to increase more personnel in the Labour Court saying labour court issues must be addressed timeously.

He said, "There is a lot of backlog in the Labour Court and we will continue to look for more people to take up the challenging job."

The swearing in ceremony was attended by the Secretary of the Judiciary Service Commission Justice Rita Makarau, Judge President, Justice George Chiweshe, the Attorney General Johannes Tomana, several judges and senior officials in the justice delivery system.
