A 25-year-old Harare man was over the weekend kidnapped by unknown men who wanted to know United Family International Church leader Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa's source of spiritual healing powers.

Alois Tapiwa Nduna, who is a UFIC member and stays in Waterfalls, was kidnapped by three men along Rezende Street after he had disembarked from a commuter omnibus.

Acting Harare provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tarirai Dube confirmed the incident and said investigations were still in progress.

She said Nduna had discovered that he had lost his wallet that had his identity particulars.

"While in the process of searching himself, he was called by an unknown man by his name. He then went to that man who lured him into believing that they wanted to follow the kombi that had his wallet," Asst Insp Dube said.

She said Nduna got into an unknown silver Mazda vehicle which also had two other occupants while "following" the kombi. It is alleged that along the way the three told Nduna that they wanted to know Prophet Makandiwa's source of spiritual healing powers.

According to a report made to the police, Nduna expressed ignorance but the trio threatened to kill him.

They later removed his neck tie and tied his hands before bundling him into the car's boot. They drove to yet an unknown house in the city that had a black gate and a security wall.

Asst Insp Dube said the men then removed him from the boot.

They, however, bundled Nduna into the boot of a Toyota Corolla before driving off.

Nduna was dumped in Ruwa, a few hours later and phoned a UFIC security officer identified as Wisdom Masango (45) who went and picked him up.

He was then taken to a UFI church in the city.

Nduna made a report the following day at Waterfalls Police Station.

No arrests have been made and investigations are still in progress.

Asst Insp Dube urged the public to be wary of strangers as some of them might be criminals.
