HARARE - In a suspected case of infanticide, a woman this week allegedly dumped the body of her newly-born baby at Carter House in Mbare.
Carter House is the home of Zanu-PF's Mbare terror group Chipangano.
Police confirmed they are investigating a case of infanticide in the old suburb.
"Kudakwashe Makumbe of Mbare had been pregnant but the following day people realised the pregnancy was gone," Tariro Dube, acting Harare provincial police spokesperson said.
"An anonymous caller alerted the police who reacted swiftly. We interviewed the woman who then gave indications to police leading to the gruesome discovery. I have no idea of the involvement of any politician in the matter but like I said we are still investigating.
"Makumbe who had given birth to a baby boy is now in police custody and is being charged with concealment of a death," she said.
Makumbe reportedly gave birth at "Carter House", the council building in the high density suburb.
Investigations revealed the baby was buried in a shallow grave, leading to the arrest of the woman.
Makumbe is believed to be in her 30s although police could not provide her exact age.
