THERE is a scramble for anointing oil at the Revival Centre suburb where more than 8 000 bottles of the healing oil have been sold in the past 18 months.

A bottle goes for $4.

The open-air church now averages a weekly congregation of over 2 000 worshippers drawn from across the country.

The Weekender attended last Sunday's service and witnessed miracles and stunning confessions.

The church leader and prophet, Bishop Adventure Mutepfa who has been accused of acquiring his healing powers from a Ghana "sangoma", Nana Kwaku Bonsam, said like the Biblical healing garment, the anointing oil brings to an end all ailments to people who have faith.

Nana Kwaku Bonsam claims that he gave over 1 700 pastors across Africa powers to perform miracles,

Last Sunday service saw many born again worshippers ' from fake prophets to wizards ' taking turns to share their testimonies.

"We are facing resistance from the dark world. Congregants from our church are being persecuted for believing in God and coming to Revival Centre. The persecution was expected and we thank God that everyone who attends every Sunday service is getting desired results of believing in God. I am not surprised with the crowd because people are seeking deliverance and nothing else. We have sold over 8 000 bottles of anointing oil and those who believe in God, will be healed.

There must be faith both in the person praying and in the person prayed for.

"Just like other local preachers, I am being accused of having acquired the spiritual powers from the dark world. Persecution like this is unavoidable and once a person starts to move forward, dogs begin to bark. Name-calling is now part and parcel of my everyday life in Jesus Christ but even Jesus faced that and I will never cease praying for my church members and the nation in general and teach them that persecution is sign of a victory.

"Pastors and bishops of various churches in Mutare come to me in private, particularly at night, seeking deliverance and it's high time we should not mind about what people say about you but what God thinks about your inner being. Everyone is welcome and we are ready to help them," said the 45-year-old former Mutare Boys High student.

Miracles and confessions were the order of the day.

At least seven people threw away their crashes soon after being delivered and they confessed that they had spent the better part of their lives bedridden.

A Madzibaba from an apostolic sect who used to give his clients good luck stones and charms to enhance their business confessed all his deeds.

He said: "I tried my best to compete with this man (Mutepfa) since I thought I was powerful in my own right. Believe me, I failed and I am here today to be saved. I have spiritual eyes and Bishop is man worth respected. Glory be to God."

A cross border trader identified as Sister Bande who used to rely on Madzibaba's stones to boost her business also confessed:  "I used to rely on stones from Madzibaba to boost my business. Every time, before crossing Beitbridge borderpost, I would throw a stone and the Zimra guys would be engulfed with confusion.

"But you know when the devil uses you, I never had peace with myself and I had a debt of over $9 000 and always played hide-and-seek with my clients.

"Until I realised that I should give my life to God. Things have changed now and I am almost done paying my debts and I am experiencing an overflow of blessings in my life. I let go all the charms and the stones and I thank God I am saved. I started using anointing oil and paying tithes. My life has changed. I, however, suffered persecution from Madzibaba vaindishandira and from my friends who lived in my past because of the decision to follow God."

Nomsa Makarange, a mother of one from Dangamvura who suffered complications during pregnancy after nurses had advised for a C-section after the baby had defecated in the womb. She drank the anointing oil a few days before conceiving and later gave birth to a bouncing baby boy.

"I had no money to go for scan till I went into labour. God did his wonders and I am happy to testify that my child and I are both healthy," she said.

The concept (of using mediums, like anointing oil for healing and deliverance) is drawn from the Bible.
