A 32-year-old Buhera man from Bhadharai Village under Chief Nyashanu has been jailed for five years after he was convicted of brutally attacking his ex-wife's boyfriend with an iron bar.
Reuben Mukanje of Bhadharai Village under Chief Nyashanu in Buhera was recently dragged before Rusape regional magistrate, Mr Livingstone Chipadza, facing attempted murder charges.
He pleaded guilty to the charges.
Mr Chipadza sentenced him to five years in jail two of which were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
It was the State's case led by Area Public Prosecutor, Mr Tirivanhu Mutyasira, that the accused attacked Energy Tapfumanei (42) whom he found sleeping with his ex-wife, Anna Mangwiro.
"On November 17, 2012 at around 6pm the complainant who is a bottle store manager at Buhera Business Centre left his home and went to Marenga Business Centre to spend the night with his girlfriend Mangwiro. At around 10pm they retired to bed.
"The accused then visited his former wife that same night. At around 2am he knocked at the door but his ex-wife refused to open the door. He then forced himself in using an iron bar he was holding.
"While inside he started assaulting the complainant. He hit him several times on the head with the bar as well as his right leg.
"As a result of the assault he sustained serious deep cuts on the head as well as multiple fractures on the leg."
The complainant was later ferried to Murambinda Mission Hospital where he was admitted and treated for the injuries.
