A 64 year-old woman from Donki Village under Chief Sogwala, died of shock after receiving news that her son had been murdered at a bar in Lower Gweru.
Police identified the deceased woman as Mrs Tendai Ncube.
The woman is said to have died upon admission to Dufuya clinic in Lower Gweru.
Her brother, Mr Milton Sibanda, confirmed the incident.
He said Mrs Ncube collapsed just after receiving news that her son, Chalton Ncube (20) had been killed in a fight at Dufuya Business Centre.
Mr Sibanda said the people who broke the sad news to his sister were not gentle as they were blunt resulting in Mrs Ncube suffering from shock.
"Mrs Ncube was informed of the death of her son in an immature and blunt manner by three drunk men from the bar. She suffered a heart attack and collapsed. She was then taken to Dufuya clinic where her condition was reported to be critical. Mrs Ncube died on Monday at the same clinic," said Mr Sibanda.
Acting Midlands police spokes person, Assistant Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the death of Mrs Ncube and that of her son.
He, however, said there were reports of her sickness before the incident.
"The incident happened on 1 March at around 3pm. It is alleged that Chalton died on the spot after he was struck with a stone just above the left ear by a fellow patron. The two, Ivene Moyo and Chalton Ncube had a misunderstanding while they were drinking beer at Dufuya Business Centre, in Lower Gweru. The suspect Moyo was dancing inside the bar with two strobes tied around his waist since he had just unspanned his cattle," said Asst Insp Mahoko.
Asst Insp Mahoko said Moyo was then approached by the now deceased Chalton who asked him why he was carrying the strobes.
"This led to a misunderstanding between the two. Chalton allegedly grabbed Moyo by the collar and slapped him once on the right cheek. Moyo ran for some few metres and picked a stone. He struck Ncube once on the head just above the left ear, Ncube fell to the ground and died on the spot," said Asst Insp Mahoko.
He said the matter was reported to the police who attended to the scene and the body of the deceased was conveyed to Gweru Provincial Hospital.
Asst Insp Mahoko said Moyo was then arrested.
"We once again would want to appeal to members of the public to desist from engaging in acts of violence. People should always seek better ways of solving disputes than resorting to fights. They should engage elders, counsellors and other community leaders to assist them solve their differences," said Asst Insp Mahoko.
