A 41-year-old man who allegedly teamed up with three other men and seriously assaulted his daughter's 22-year-old boyfriend accusing him of being a thief has appeared in court.
Three of the accused reportedly caught Dylan Simbarashe of 20595 Unit B Chitungwiza, waiting for his girlfriend outside as she took a bath and accused him of being a thief.
They called the girl's father and teamed up to severely assault him.
Lawrence Kasinganeti (41) the father of the girl of 9239 in Unit K was jointly charged with Gabriel Tandi (18), Charles Mutake (59) and Zvikombororero Tani (19) of the same area.
They denied three counts of assault, kidnapping and theft when they appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo.
Mr Murendo remanded them to March 20 on US$50 bail.
Circumstances were that on February 15, and at around 7pm, Simbarashe visited his girlfriend at her home in Unit K.
On arrival, he waited outside the bathroom while she took a bath.
During this time, it is alleged that Tandi, Mutake and Zvikomborero surrounded and grabbed him.
They started accusing him of being a thief and took turns to assault and lead him into Kasinganeti's house.
They called Kasinganeti who was away and informed him that they had apprehended a thief at his place.
On arrival, they informed him that he was the one who was dating his daughter.
This angered Kasinganeti who floored the helpless Simbarashe with blows and a baton stick and wooden stick that he handed to the other three.
They took turns to assault him and it is alleged that Simbarashe lost a cellphone and US$5 during the melee.
His friend's attempt to rescue him was fruitless as the enraged men charged at him.
Mr Lovet Muringwa prosecuted.
