A 56-year-old Glendale man is battling for his life at Concession Hospital after a suspected burglar severely assaulted him with an axe handle.
The suspect has since been arrested and now faces an attempted murder charge.
Mashonaland Central provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Petros Masikati confirmed law enforcement agents arrested Majaire Kadzinga (33) for attacking Mr Frederick Samukange.
According to information gathered last week, a burglar broke into Mr Samukange's tuckshop on March 11 and got away with some grocery items.
The businessman suspected Kadzinga and his friend. He, subsequently searched for the stolen items at Kadzinga's house while the suspect was away.
It is alleged Kadzinga later assaulted Mr Samukange after learning about the unsanctioned search.
Asst Insp Masikati said Mr Samukange was unconscious when police attended the scene.
