A Gokwe woman caused a stir when she went to tell the chief of the area that she wanted to surrender her goblins which she alleged were haunting her.
The woman claimed that she got the troublesome goblins from her grandmother when she was still young. The woman, Clara Mashoko, said she no longer wanted the goblins anymore. Mashoko is said to have gone to Chief Njelele in tears and asked for help to get rid of her goblins that her grandmother had spiritually given her when she was young (kutemerwa nyora).
Chief Njelele said Mashoko could not quantify the number of goblins that she had been given.
"I asked her how many goblins she had been given and she told me she could not quantify them because they were too many. She hysterically told me that these goblins were haunting her and making her life a living hell," said Chief Njelele.
The Traditional leader said Mashoko claimed that she always heard weird voices in the daytime while during the night she felt like someone was having sexual intercourse with her. He said she was certain that her problems were caused by the goblins.
"She said she is living in fear as she now hears voices during the day and at night she has sex with those goblins. She is positive the goblins are sleeping with her," he said.
He said the terrified woman said she was given those goblins unknowingly and now they were collaborating with her neighbour's goblins to torment her. Chief Njelele said the woman begged him to help her either by referring her to someone who could get rid of them for good or invite the notorious tsikamutandas to the village.
"Mashoko begged me to assist her with names and directions of traditional practitioners who could help her to get rid of those goblins for good. I sat down with elders of all the villages in my area and we came up with a solution for her. We referred her to a sangoma from a nearby village whom we thought could help her," he said.
Chief Njelele said Mashoko is to return on Sunday when she would give the traditional leader a report back on whether or not she was assisted.
So notorious is Chief Njelele's area that last year another villager's goblin allegedly stole panties belonging to 26 women. Another villager later apologised after a tsikamutanda reportedly fingered him as the owner of the thieving goblin. My Zimbabwe has it in good authority that the goblin was also found wearing an underwear belonging to a village headman's wife.
