Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri has expressed disappointment at some people who continue to perpetrate violence despite countless calls for peace.
Addressing a pass-out parade of 325 police officers at Morris Depot in Harare this Thursday, Commissioner General Chihuri said as the country heads for harmonised elections, it is time that everyone stands up and fully commit themselves to work for total peace in the country.
He said he was disturbed by the few cases of violence reported from various parts of the country.
He added that everyone has the moral obligation to bring about, and uphold peace as those who count on violence will be dealt with decisively.
"After a peaceful and successful referendum, the country's focus is now on attaining a similar or even greater success in the forthcoming harmonised elections. The ZRP remains highly visible and vigilant throughout the country in order to foster peace and security before, during and after the forthcoming watershed harmonised elections. We have a moral obligation to ensure that there is peace in Zimbabwe, and this is a paramount legacy which we owe to the future generation," Commissioner General Chihuri said.
The police officers also committed themselves to be out in full force during the campaign and election period to curb any forms of violence.
The pass-out parade saw 325 police officers (199 males and 126 females) completing a six months competence based recruit training.
