A ZIMUNYA man who could not withstand arguing with his father-in-law over his refusal to sanction the return of his family and threatened to commit suicide was last week dragged to court with the latter praying for a protection order.
Joseph Sachiwira dragged his son-in-law, Tendai Kuneyi to Mutare Civil Court seeking a protection order to stop him from visiting his homestead since he always threatens to kill himself there.
"I want him barred from visiting my homestead because he always threatens to kill me and then himself. The last time we had a dispute about his family, he almost threw himself in my well. If there is anything that he wants from his family he can send his father or his young brother.
"As for him, he should stop coming to my house I don't want his avenging spirit to haunt me later in the event that he commits suicide," said Sachiwira after being asked by the presiding magistrate, Ms Anne Ndiraya, if there was anything he wanted to add in his affidavit.
Kuneyi opposed the application saying he wanted to be allowed to see his family.
"I sent my wife to her parents' place because she had a problem that was now disturbing our marriage. Anticipating that they will go with her to the prophets or traditional healers to solve the problem, they now blame me.
"Her father is refusing to sanction the return of his daughter to my place. I want them back, but he is now barring me from visiting them and that is why I wanted to committee suicide. All I need is my family," said Kuneyi.
In her ruling, Ms Ndiraya granted the protection order to Sachiwira and advised Kuneyi to stop visiting the family.
