A BUHERA man is in police custody after he fatally assaulted a neighbour following a heated misunderstanding over stray cattle last week.

Police said Enock Muzembe (29) sustained serious injuries after he was heavily beaten on his knees, thighs and back.

Assistant Manicaland provincial police spokesman, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda, confirmed the murder which happened in Chief Makumbe's area.

He said the alleged murderer, Sunday Nyekete, was assisting them with investigations.

"Muzembe was, at around 3pm, herding cattle in Nyekete's farm when the latter ordered him to remove them. Muzembe's mum, Frasta Madzvimbo also advised him to remove the cattle, but he would not budge.

"He instead went to Nyekete's homestead and ordered his wife, Jane Chandafira to remove her clothes from the washing line.

"Nyekete's wife asked him why he wanted her to remove the clothes and Muzembe responded by assaulting Chandafira all over her body. She fell down before Madzvimbo and Nyekete arrived at the place. Madzvimbo, upon realising what had happened, started whipping her son, Muzembe.

"Nyekete took over and assaulted him also all over his body. Muzembe sustained serious injuries all over his body and died the following day after his condition deteriorated," said Asst Insp Chananda.
