Cop fatally shoots self with AK47

A policeman attached to the Police Protection Unit (PPU) committed suicide by shooting himself on the head with an AK-47 assault rifle after his wife reportedly discovered that he had impregnated another woman.
The incident occurred at the house of Harare High Court Judge Justice Nicholas Mathonsi in Hillside suburb on Thursday at about 2pm. Bulawayo deputy provincial spokesperson Assistant Inspector Bekimpilo Ndlovu confirmed the incident.
"We are handling a case whereby a police officer died due to a gun shot wound while on duty in Hillside," said Asst Insp ndlovu.
He could not shed more light on the matter, saying the policeman's next of kin had not been informed. However, sources close to the matter said the policeman who was on duty received a phone call from his wife informing him that he should come straight home after work, so that he could meet with his pregnant girlfriend.
"There were two policemen who were on duty that day and one of them received a phone call. Moments later he suddenly stood up and pointed an AK-47 on his head and pulled the trigger. he died on the spot," said a source from the neighbourhood.
He said after the gunshot, the other policeman panicked and bolted from the scene, only to be found wondering within the yard moments later.
"We understand that the other police officer is being held and is assisting police with investigations," said the source.
Justice Mathonsi could not be reached for comment and other police officers had been deployed to the Judge's house.
