A 17-YEAR-OLD house maid in Cowdray Park, died when she was electrocuted allegedly by uninsulated electric wires illegally connected by her employer, a regional magistrate heard.

Mrs Judith Zuyu heard this during the  appearance  of  Chipo  Mareya  who  is facing a  charge  of  culpable homicide at the Bulawayo Regional Court.

Mareya of Cowdray Park, pleaded not guilty to culpable homicide and was remanded out of custody to tomorrow.

Mareya was Portia Chuma's employer between 12 January 2012 and 2 April the same year and the latter was responsible for cleaning a fowl run and feeding chickens.

For the State, Mr Dzipe told the court that on 2 April 2012, Portia was in the fowl run doing her routine duties when she was electrocuted by an electric wire which had allegedly been illegally connected by Mareya.

She was found dead in the fowl run by some witnesses, the court heard.

Mareya had connected the cord from the main house into the fowl run through a metal gate and it is alleged that the electric cord was worn out and as a result wires were dangerously exposed.

A report was made to the police leading to Mareya's arrest.
