A NYANGA man, who appeared to be in his late 30s, stunned attendees at Chief Saunyama's court when he claimed that he sells goblins for $25 each.

Mathias Sithole of Ruwangwe in Nyanga North constituency, who was part of a four-member team of traditional healers at Chief Saunyama's court session last Friday, said he has sold a good number of goblins to people from different walks of life.

Goblins, which are understood to be magical charms used to protect people from thieves or unseen assailants, are popularly referred to as zvikwambo.

In an interview on the sidelines of last Friday's court session at Chief Saunyama's homestead in the Nyatate area, Sithole said his clients were not always honest about their intentions when they seek to buy a goblin. He said he charges $25 for a goblin.

"I sell goblins and I normally charge $25 each. When people approach me in search of goblins they do not normally say the truth about their intentions. They tell you that they want to protect their homes against thieves or unseen assailants like witches, but the truth is that when you buy a goblin it becomes your property and you can use it in whatever way you want. You can order it to do whatever you feel like.

"If they pay $25 when collecting the goblin they will use it for an initial five years after which they will pay the real charge for using it. In fact, after the five years, it (the goblin) will then demand what it actually wants as some form of payment," he said.

He added that during its stay with the client, it is periodically fed with blood from livestock.

"They will periodically kill goats or even chickens and use the blood to feed the goblin," he added.
