Easter holiday death toll up to 45

The Easter holiday death toll has risen to 45 in a total of 386 road accidents recorded countrywide.

Police recorded 386 accidents by 0900hrs Tuesday, compared to 206 during the same period last year.

There were 180 casualties, up from 150.

Police spokesperson, Superintendent Paul Nyathi said the major causes of accidents are speeding, inattention, misjudgement and overtaking errors.

He advised motorists who are returning from the holiday to be patient and exercise caution on the roads.

Police, who have been stationed along the country's major roads throughout the holiday, have issued 7 450 tickets for various offences and impounded 147 defective vehicles.
