A self styled prophet reportedly received a thorough beating while he was enjoying beer at a 'Shebeen' after demanding money for spiritual consultation from client's hubby.

Nelson Chihuri (34) who operates as a prophet was thrashed by Taurai Mwanyali (32) of Zone 6, Hopley Farm after a confrontation over the $100 he is demanding from his (Taurai's) wife for some prophetic services rendered.

Surprisingly, the man of God, Prophet Nelson, allegedly met his fate while he was busy enjoying beer at a Shebeen in the same area. For that reason, he filed a police report prompting Taurai's appearance in court charged with assault. He appeared before Mbare magistrate Stanford Mambanje facing a charge of assault.

Taurai's wife had once been sick before approaching Prophet Nelson who ordered her to bring some pangolin's eggs to be used for the healing process and she failed to bring them, a court heard.

Prophet Nelson allegedly advised her to give him $100 for the spiritual healing yet he was lying according to Taurai who then questioned his service resulting in the fight, it is alleged.

It is the State's case that on 5 March, at Zone 4 Hopley Farm in Waterfalls, Taurai spotted Prophet Nelson who was enjoying his beer at a Shebeen and he invited the man of God for some more drinks outside the Shebeen.

It was however, quite unfortunate that the Prophet failed to use his 'powers' to prophesy of what was going to take place as he accepted the offer not knowing that he was going to be thrashed. It is alleged that when Prophet Nelson came out of the shebeen he was welcomed with the violent Taurai who simply attacked him once with a beer bottle on the forehead.

The State alleges that Taurai further assaulted Prophet Nelson several times on his body without explaining why he was thrashing him. As a result of the assault, the beer-loving prophet sustained a deep cut on his forehead and also lost his tooth at the height of the fracas.

Magistrate Mambanje remanded Taurai out of custody on $50 bail to 10 April when his judgment will be delivered. Hilda Varaidzo Munnaku prosecuted.
