IN a rape incident which left Chimanimani villagers calling for justice, an 84-year-old man was recently arrested after he allegedly raped his niece (16) once.
Assistant Manicaland provincial police spokesman, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda, confirmed the arrest of Newton Tafangenyasha of Chitimbi Village under Chief Mutambara.
He said at around 6am, Tafangenyasha called the juvenile (name withheld) and asked her to prepare him some breakfast.
"She complied and when she was on her way back from the kitchen hut, he tripped her to the ground and raped her once. She later told her grandmother who was in Bulawayo when the incident happened. The juvenile was taken to the hospital for medical examination," he said.
In an unrelated incident, a sex-starved man from Inyati in Makoni District last week allegedly raped a 14-year-old juvenile twice before vanishing from the area.
Police are looking for Milton Sakala (age not given) who locked up the juvenile in his bedroom and raped her several times during the night before her parents came to the rescue.
Asst Insp Chananda said anyone with information leading to Sakala's arrest should contact their nearest police station.
Meanwhile, police in Makoni arrested Simon Manera (30) on rape allegations.
Manera last week allegedly raped a 20-year-old woman (name withheld) of Ruanda Farm in Chief Makoni's area who was looking for firewood.
The victim was raped in front of her eight-month old baby. The victim screamed for help which led to Manera's arrest.
