BRUTALLY assaulting his eight months pregnant wife using a log earned a Chipinge man 15 months behind bars.
Lovemore Banga (29) was convicted by Mr Makamera Waini on Tuesday. Five months of the sentence were suspended on condition that he does not commit any offence or any involving violence in the next five years.
The State told the court that on February 4, Banga of Shekwa in Chief Musikavanhu's area had an altercation with his wife that led to a fight.
The wife had told Banga that she was considering leaving their matrimonial home since he was abusing her.
Banga slapped the complainant several times before assaulting her with clenched fists. He then grabbed a log and pounded her several times.
The complainant was rescued by neighbours who heard her wailing for help.
In sentencing him, Mr Waini said assaulting an eight months pregnant woman was unacceptable.
"You could have killed both the mother and the child by using a log, accordingly you deserve sometime away from the community,"
