A 20-year-old Bikita woman committed suicide last week after she was involved in a major altercation with her husband who accused her of lying that she was pregnant.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero confirmed that Loveness Jackson took poison following the altercation.
It is understood Loveness lied to her husband, Mr Johnson Muvandira (31) that she was pregnant.
For six months, Mr Muvandira believed they were expecting a child, only to discover last week that his wife had lied to him.
The couple argued on April 2, leading Mr Muvandira to send Loveness packing. She, subsequently, went to her parents' home.
Police investigations indicate that Loveness visited a local clinic after complaining of a headache.
She later took poison after returning from the clinic.
A sibling who was present tried to restrain her, but failed. She died before she could receive medical attention.
Insp Zhanero urged members of the public to seek counselling when marital disputes arise.
