MDC-T Manicaland provincial spokesperson Mr Pishai Muchauraya is likely to be hauled before an internal disciplinary hearing after he reportedly presented a curriculum vitae with forged academic qualifications to the Parliament of Zimbabwe.

Investigations uncovered that Muchauraya, a legislator for Makoni South, claimed to have attained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology with a United States of America-based university named Triunel, among three other qualifications.

He submitted his curriculum vitae to the Clerk of Parliament in March 2008.

The US embassy in Zimbabwe last week denied the existence of the university cited by Mr Muchauraya saying it was not accredited on their list of the 3 000 degree-granting colleges and universities.

US education country co-ordinator Zimbabwe, Rebecca Mano, said after checking with their Washington based Council for Higher Accreditation (CHEA), Triunel University was not on their database.

"It is not accredited with CHEA, you can verify with our website www.chea.org," Mano wrote in a short response.

CHEA is an association of 3 000 degree-granting colleges and universities and recognises 60 institutional and programmatic accrediting organisations.

Further enquiries by The Herald on the internet as well as other efforts to confirm the existence of the university proved fruitless.

In an interview last week, MDC-T organising secretary Mr Nelson Chamisa said Mr Muchauraya faces internal disciplinary hearing.

"We are a party of excellence and when our party members present their curriculum vitaes we have a team that verifies their qualifications. In the event that we note that a party member has forged his qualifications, we will immediately bring that certain individual before an internal disciplinary hearing and his or her fate will be determined by the outcome of the hearings," said Mr Chamisa.

When contacted for comment Mr Muchauraya told this reporter that he has never submitted his curriculum vitae to the Parliament of Zimbabwe.

"Where are you getting that information, I know what you are trying to do because we are in the elections period and you want to tarnish my name," he said.

Asked if he has been to the US or corresponded with a university named Triunel, Mr Muchauraya could neither confirm nor deny.

"What is your agenda? Talk to our organising secretary (Mr Chamisa). You have been sent to destroy me. Who are you to ask me about my qualifications? Go to our party's headquarters," said a fuming Mr Muchauraya.

Deputy Clerk of Parliament Mr Kennedy Chokuda said House of Assembly Members of Parliament submit their curriculum vitaes willingly.

"We have their curriculum vitaes in our database so that we (Parliament) have necessary information for the public and also for other functions in Parliament business."
