A 23-year-old security guard allegedly connived with a 45-year-old caretaker at a city shopping mall and broke into one of the shops before stealing mobile phones worth more than US$28 000.
Kenias Shayawabaya who is the resident caretaker, was the custodian of all office keys at the mall while Pride Chakaambechi was responsible for guarding the premises during the night.
Shayawabaya and Chakaambechi were not asked to plead to a charge of unlawful entry and theft when they appeared before Mr Donald Ndirowei on Tuesday. They were remanded to May 8 on US$100 bail apiece.
Appearing for the State, Miss Junior Mugebe told the court that on April 3, Shayawabaya and Chakaambechi connived with their colleague and hatched a plan to steal from GD Eletronix.
It is the State's case that the trio gained entry into the shop after breaking a window. The State alleges that they stole mobile phones worth US$28 930. The company's general manager Mr Gibson Sibanda discovered the offence the following morning and reported the crime to the police leading to the arrest of the duo.
