POLICE in Chimanimani are looking for a 38-year-old man who fatally assaulted his mother following an altercation over cattle.
Police said Ndabaningi Musere of Murazvi Village under Chief Mutambara vanished just after he gruesomely murdered his mother, Nelia Musere (76) at around 6pm last weekend.
"Ndabaningi came home at around 6pm from Wengezi Business Centre and found Nelia lying on a reed mat with her 13-year-old niece. He ordered Nelia to sell some of the cattle since he wanted money to spend.
"His mum refused to cooperate and expressed her displeasure over the idea," said Assistant Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda.
Ndabaningi allegedly took a 1,1 metre long stick and assaulted Nelia on the left hand. He further assaulted her three times on the head using an axe handle.
"She bled profusely after sustaining deep cuts from the head injuries. Tinotenda Musere who also stayed at the same homestead went to call her aunt, Tabeth.
"She saw her lying in a pool of blood. Ndabaningi vanished after realising that he had killed Nelia.
"A police report was made and Ndabaningi is still at large," Asst Insp Chananda said.
Police are appealing to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of the Ndabaningi to contact Chimanimani ZRP or their nearest police station.
