Sangoma uses mbanje to cure HIV

A 31-year-old man from New Mabvuku has been sent to jail for eight months after being found in possession of over a kilogramme of mbanje (dagga) which he claimed to use to cure HIV.
Dickson Muvhuti told the court that his healer had advised him to burn the dagga in his house to make the deadly HIV virus disappear.
"Sekuru Trust advised me to burn the dagga as it's smoke cures HIV virus," he said.
Muvhuti pleaded guilty to allegations of possessing mbanje when he appeared before Harare magistrate Elijah Makono. he was slapped with 12 month imprisonment before four months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour. The remaining eight months shall be effective.
State counsel Desire Chidanire Mupudzi told the court that on 8 April cops from Mabvuku cycle patrol unit were patrolling along Hanyani Road when they met Muvhuti carrying a career bag.
The police officers requested to search the bag forcing Muvhuti to throw the bag in a nearby yard and took to his heels. The cops chased him and apprehended him. They then found two plastic bags full of dagga and it weighed 1,680kg, with a street value of $168.
