ZIMRA donates confiscated goods to charity

Goods worth millions of dollars confiscated from illegal cross border traders have been handed over to several charity organisations around the country.
The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) handed over the confiscated goods to the Minister of Labour and Social Services, Paurina Mpariwa, who then distributed them to 76 registered children's homes, 47 institutions for people with disabilities and 19 old people's homes throughout the country.
Mpariwa said the goods impounded at boarder posts and along high ways will complement the monthly grants that the government is providing to assist various homes.
ZIMRA representative, Bright Mugadza, who described as misconceptions claims that officials at boarder posts convert the goods to their own benefit, said the distribution of the goods is testimony that everything is above board.
Representatives of some organisations who benefitted commended government for playing a leading role in supporting them at the time of need.
A number of old people's homes, children's homes as well as homes for people with disabilities have for sometime been facing challenges ranging from food and clothing shortages.
