POLICE in Gokwe are investigating a case of robbery in which six men armed with a firearm and logs pounced on two tuck shops and got away with cash and groceries valued at $270.
The incident, which occurred at Mlalazi Business Centre, Gokwe recently was confirmed by acting police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.
"On the said date and time, six unknown male adults who were travelling in a silver motor vehicle with a dent on the front passenger door arrived at Mlalazi Business Centre along the Charama-Gokwe Road and switched off the engine. They started pushing the vehicle as they approached the tuck shops," said Insp Mahoko.
He said the suspects left the car armed with logs and an object that looked like a firearm. Insp Mahoko said the gang approached a tuck shop by the name "Shati" where they allegedly broke a window pane using the logs they were carrying. "They got into the shop and threatened Ms Janet Shati a female adult aged 42 who was sleeping inside. The robbers demanded all the cash threatening to kill her if she failed to comply. Out of fear, Mrs Shati surrendered $130 to the gang before they went on to loot various grocery items valued at $60," said Insp Mahoko.
He said the men went to another tuck shop where they again forced open the door. Insp Mahoko said they found Ms Tabeth Kokera (44) of Kanda Village in Chief Nemangwe, sleeping in the shop.
"One of the suspects hit the window of the shop with a log. He instructed Ms Kokera to hand over all the cash that was in the shop. Ms Kokera complied and she gave the robbers $40. The suspects went on to loot groceries valued at $40 and left the shop," said Insp Mahoko.
Police are appealing to members of the public with information, which might lead to the arrest of the men to approach the nearest police station or give tip offs using police suggestion boxes.
