The trial of criminal defamation between former ZIFA chief executive Henrietta Rushwaya and incumbent chief Jonathan Mashingaidze which was supposed to kick off this Tuesday morning has been postponed to the 6th of May at the request of the defence.
The allegations arise from an incident in which Mashingaidze is reported to have accused national team players of visiting Rushwaya's offices and was flighted on ZBC News.
The case was postponed by Harare Magistrate Tambudzai Siwardi following an application for postponement by the defence counsel which said advocate Lewis Uriri who is supposed to handle the case is not available.
They submitted that he will be available on the 6th of next month.
State lawyer Public Mpofu reluctantly consented to postponement saying defence should have informed them of the developments before the date of trial.
The criminal defamation charges emanate from a news clip which is said to have been aired by ZBC News implicating players visiting Rushwaya's offices for purposes of fixing matches.
The defence has also requested to view the video clip before continuation of trial.
