There was drama in Mashandudze village in Mugabe communal lands in Masvingo yesterday after a man suspected to be using mubobobo vanished after scores of village women camped at his homestead demanding that he disposes of his muti.
Champion Chitambira (86) vanished just before the village head and Chief Mugabe were expected to arrive at the homestead to witness the destruction of his charms, that allow him to mysteriously have sex with women without their consent.
Chitambira had allegedly admitted in front of Chief Mugabe and Headman Mashandudze that he possessed the charms that he wanted to destroy. Headman Mashandudze said women in the village had complained of being sexually abused.
"Some came and openly told me that whenever they woke up they would be showing signs of having slept with a man and we were concerned and the old man made a confession," he said.
However, the octogenarian allegedly slipped out of his bedroom hut and vanished into the Great Zimbabwe monuments area after getting wind that Chief Mugabe and scores of his female victims were going to his homestead. Mashandudze village is separated by a fence from the Great Zimbabwe monuments where villagers normally fetch firewood.
Chitambira's son, James, who claims that his wife and daughter were some of the victims of his father's charms said at one time he wanted to beat up his father. "I will be the first to make sure that tomorrow (today) he does not go anywhere. We want him to show his evil charms to the whole village," he said.
Chief Mugabe, however, ruled out fining Chitambira since he was now almost a destitute. He said he wanted Mr Chitambira to openly dispose of his charms by burning them in full view of fellow villagers.
"The old man is very evil and he deserved some kind of punishment but considering his age and the fact that he is destitute we are not going to fine him or chase him away from the village. He should simply dispose of his things and I will give him a very strong warning," Chief Mugabe said.
