A key ally of the MDC-T and former Zimbabwe National Students' Union (Zinasu) leader, Tafadzwa Mugwadi, has dumped the party, accusing its leadership of being ideologically bankrupt.
Mugwadi, who as Zinasu leader drummed up support for the MDC-T among the student community, disclosed that he was joining Zanu-PF as the party has shown that it has the interests of Zimbabweans at heart.
He noted that the revolutionary party is headed for a resounding victory in the forthcoming general elections on the back of its hugely successful indigenisation and empowerment drive.
After years of working with the MDC-T, the outspoken former student activist says he has come to the realisation that the party's leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, does not have the qualities needed to become the president of Zimbabwe.
The MDC-T, added Mugwadi, is devoid of solutions to the country's socio-economic challenges with its officials in the inclusive Government having demonstrated a penchant for pursuing self-enrichment at the expense of initiating developmental programmes.
"They (MDC-T) are clueless. The don't even have a solution to the sanctions-induced challenges the country is facing, yet they are the ones who spent a lot of time clamouring for the imposition of this diabolic embargo on Zimbabwe," he said.
"The inclusive government has exposed them for who they are, they don't have a policy or an ideology, clearly the MDC-T is not a Zimbabwean project.
"Those who are bankrolling the party and paying rentals at Harvest House are the owners of that doomed project and it is important to note that these people are against our emancipation."
Mugwadi, who is also secretary-general of the Zimbabwe Youth Action Group, said Tsvangirai's sexual scandals and his flip-flopping tendencies are proof that the MDC-T leader is not "presidential material."
The former Zinasu leader said on the other hand, President Mugabe and Zanu-PF have shown that they can be trusted with defending the country's sovereignty.
Mugwadi predicted a resounding victory for Zanu-PF in general elections due this year.
"The revolutionary movement is unstoppable as President Mugabe is a tried and tested leader who is consistent in taking the country forward, unlike Tsvangirai whose inconsistency is legendary," he said.
Commenting on the seemingly sour relationship between Zanu-PF and Zinasu, Mugwadi noted the students' movement lacked "enough information on the revolutionary party's policies."
"That seemingly sour relationship is not about Zanu-PF not being good enough to represent the interests of the majority Zimbabweans, who are mainly the youths," he said.
"Clearly there is an information gap between Zinasu and Zanu-PF, but this is something that can be worked on as no one in their right senses can argue against the fact that the revolutionary party's policies are for the good of Zimbabwe.
"All that is needed is for the youths to be given enough information so that they can appreciate the noble projects," Mugwadi said.
The MDC-T has suffered a number of defections over the past few months while factionalism has consistently rocked the party with some senior members hinting at running as independent candidates during the forthcoming elections after being barred from contesting in the party's primary elections.
