Malawian President Joyce Banda has arrived in the country for a four day state visit during which she will officially open the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo on Friday this week.
She is accompanied by the Foreign Minister, Mr Ephraim Chiume and Deputy Industry and Trade Minister, Mr Sam Ganda.
Dr Banda was met at the Harare International Airport by the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe, Vice President Joice Mujuru, ministers and other senior government officials.
The Malawian president was accorded a 21 gun salute and inspected the guard of honour.
She was entertained by traditional dancers, and hundreds of people came to welcome the first woman president in Southern Africa and the second in Africa, after Liberia's Dr Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
Tomorrow (Wednesday), President Banda is expected to tour the National Heroes Acre, Boka Tobacco auction floors and a maternity clinic in Harare's Kuwadzana suburb.
On Thursday, she is expected to visit the Gushungo Dairy Farm in Mazowe, and the Grace Mugabe Children's Home.
On Friday, Dr Banda will leave for Bulawayo where she will tour a number of stands including the Malawian Pavilion at the trade fair grounds before officially opening the 54th edition of the ZITF.
