A 32-year-old Beatrice man from Illadale Farm was last week killed by a crocodile while fishing in Lake Chivero near Caroline Farm.
Officer commanding Mashonaland East province Senior Assistant
Commissioner Ronald Muderedzwa confirmed the incident.
"We received a report that George Meki was attacked and killed by a crocodile at Lake Chivero while casting fishing nets in the company of his elder brother Big Brian Meki (37) and son-in-law Doesmatter Mubhabha (67)," he said.
It is reported that on April 19 George went fish poaching at Lake Chivero in the company of Big Brian Meki and Mubhabha.
Upon arrival at the lake it is alleged that the trio decided to cast their nets in the lake. While doing so it is reported that George was attacked by a crocodile which prompted him to scream and shout for help from his two mates but they failed to rescue him.
George's body was found the following day minus all the internal organs. The matter was reported to Beatrice Police Station who attended the scene.
Snr Asst Comm Muderedzwa appealed to members of the public to desist from poaching fish with nets, especially in crocodile-infested areas as this endangered their lives.
