The wife of national hero Rekai Tangwena, Mrs Matadzisei Tangwena has died. She was 82.

She died early Wednesday morning at Parirenyatwa hospital where she was being treated for high blood pressure.

A family spokesperson , a nephew to the Tangwena family, Francis Madzivanzira confirmed Gogo Tangwena's death and told  the ZBC News that burial arrangements will be announced in due course after consultations with the family.

Born on 11 December 1930, Mrs Tangwena together with her husband the late national hero Chief Rekai Tangwena resisted the white settler regime's attempts to evict the clan from Gaeresi area to Mhandamabwe in Chivi.

The colonial regime destroyed the Tangwena clan's homesteads but the people resisted the move and lived in the mountains.

The Tangwena family helped President Robert Mugabe and Edgar Tekere to cross over into Mozambique in 1975 to take over command of the liberation struggle.
