Knife wielding naked man robs, rapes woman

A 34-YEAR-OLD Masivngo man from Rujeko suburb has appeared in court facing rape and robbery charges.
Fungai Simango of Rujeko suburb pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape and robbery before Masvingo provincial magistrate Mrs Esther Muremba.
He was remanded in custody to tomorrow for judgment.
For the State Ms Moreblessing Rusere said on 29 October last year at about 11am, two women aged 19 and 24 were gathering firewood in the bush near Rujeko B when Simango emerged from nowhere naked.
The court heard that on seeing the sight of a naked man, the women took to their heels with Simango in hot pursuit.
He allegedly chased after the older woman while wielding a knife.
The court also heard that Simango caught up with the woman and tripped her to the ground before demanding cash.
He allegedly threatened to kill her if she dared resist.
Simango forcibly took $27 from the woman before raping her once, the court h6a|d.
He then allegedly ordered her to stand up and run away to which she complied.
Simango then disappeared from the scene, the court heard.
The woman reported the rape and robbery to her parents.
A report was made to the police and a manhunt was launched.
The court heard that on 5 March this year, Simango was positively identified by the woman at the identification parade at Masvingo Remand Prison where he is in custody for a different case.
