The Movement for Democratic change led by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai claimed Monday that it had unearthed "fraudulent activities around the voters' roll" as the country gears for elections to be held within months.
The MDC-T said it had detected high numbers of new names being added to the voters' roll in at least one Harare constituency where Home Affairs Minister Theresa Makone is the MP.
In Harare North, the MDC-T reported an unusual surge in new voters even before the launch of the mobile voter registration exercise.
In a statement titled 'Zanu-PF presses panic button', the party left little doubt of who it blames for the "irregularities".
The MDC-T said it had obtained the voters' roll for Harare North constituency on April 15, and then on April 17 with surprising results.
"Names of some voters are missing in the voters' roll while some have all the correct information but the names are misspelt which can disenfranchise the voter," the statement said.
In ward 18 of the constituency, Makone's name was missing from the roll purchased on April 15 which had 151 pages and 8,305 names on it, according to the party.
In ward 42 of the same constituency, on April 15 the voters' roll had 94 and-a-half pages with 5,196 names. Two days later, it had 310 pages and 17,068 names, according to the MDC-T.
In Manicaland, the MDC-T claimed Zanu-PF was "bussing people to voter registration centres as well as placing their members in the RG'S offices to point out who should and shouldn't be registered."
No comment was immediately available from the Registrar General or Zanu PF last night.
