A TEENAGER allegedly robbed a taxi driver of his vehicle after intimidating him with a toy gun in Norton.
The 16-year-old, who is a son of a senior policeman, yesterday appeared before regional magistrate Mr William Bhila charged with armed robbery. He was remanded into the custody of his parents to January 26 next year for trial.
Mr Bhila ordered his parents to bring him to court on his trial date. The complainant in the matter is Mr Langton Mapenzauswa.
The boy completed Form Four this year.
Prosecutor Mr Dumisani Mthombeni alleges that on December 3 this year the complainant was at Karigamombe Centre in his taxi ' a Toyota Spacio.
The teenager allegedly hired Mr Mapenzauswa on the pretext that he wanted to collect 10 computers from a farm in Norton.
It is alleged that the juvenile told the cabman that he was employed by Builders Association and was tasked to collect items from Pondo Mbiri Farm in Norton.
The boy agreed to pay US$50 for the service.
Mr Mapenzauswa left the city centre with the boy who was seated at the back and used Simon Mazorodze Road and turned into Skyline Road before Marirangwe Police Post.
Upon reaching Gavillian Farm in Norton, the taxi driver asked the boy for directions leading to the farm and all of a sudden the boy produced a "gun" from his pocket and pointed at him.
The boy allegedly ordered Mr Mapenzauswa to stop the car and he complied before being ordered to run into the bush.
The teenager then took control of the vehicle and the complainant's cellphone, a jacket and driver's licence.
He drove towards Norton before connecting into Harare-Bulawayo Road and headed back to Harare.
Mr Mapenzauswa reported the matter and on December 8 detectives from the Vehicle Theft Squad were tipped that the taxi was in the Avondale area.
A follow up was made leading to the arrest of the teenager.
