Zim commemorates Workers Day

Zimbabwean workers today (Wednesday) commemorate Workers Day celebrations amid concerns that there is no longer any effective worker representation in the country as the labour bodies are being used as launch pads for political parties.
Some workers say there is nothing to celebrate due to low salaries and lack of effective representation.
Analyst, Gabriel Chaibva says selfish political interests have led to the death of proper trade unionism adding that workers should reject leaders who use the labour bodies as springboards for pursuing the regime change agenda.
Another analyst, Davison Gomo says there is need for the reorganisation of the labour movement and formation of one strong entity that represents workers.
Although the MDC-T is an offshoot of the original ZCTU, it has been on the forefront of fanning divisions and factionalism within the labour movement.
