Zanu-PF Politburo member - Mavhaire - was saved by airbags

ZANU-PF Politburo member Dzikamai Mavhaire who was injured when the vehicle he was travelling in was involved in an accident on Tuesday night was still admitted and recovering at Parirenyatwa Hospital.
The driver of Mavhaire's car, a Toyota Hilux double cab, Mr Elton Chimoto did not die during the accident as earlier reported.
In an interview yesterday, Mavhaire said he was still recovering and in a stable condition. "I am recovering and I can walk. I can eat and I am ok. The doctors are attending to me and doing their best," he said.
He said he was only travelling with his driver Mr Chimoto.
Mavhaire said the two airbags on his side saved him from sustaining serious injuries. He sustained injuries on the collar bone, two fractures on the right hand and six ribs-two on the left side and the other four on the right side.
He said some of his toes were also affected but not seriously.
Mavhaire said the Vauxhall Combo which had several passengers overturned after the collision. Acting National police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luckmore Chakanza said the driver of the Vauxhall Mr William Machengedzere died on the spot.
