A group of Nkulumane 5 children reportedly discovered a dead newly born baby dumped in a bushy area and mistook it for a goblin.
A passerby was alarmed by the way a group of children had gathered around the dead baby shouting and calling other children to come and see a goblin.
The keen woman reportedly moved closer to see the "goblin" but got the shock of her life when she realised that it was a newly born baby.
One of the residents who spoke on condition of anonymity said, "It was around 10 am when my sister saw a group of children gathered. She was passing by when she heard them talking among themselves saying they had finally seen a goblin.
"Eager to see what the children were talking about, she then moved closer and realised that it was a newly born baby which had been thrown in the bush and its umbilical cord was about to dry"
She revealed that they suspected that the baby was thrown away days after its birth and the surprising part is that it was not wrapped up or anything.
"Some women are cruel, it seemed as if the baby was a few days old. It's mother had the guts of throwing it away naked, she did not even think of wrap-ping it up," she said.
The matter was reported to Tshabalala police who attended the scene.
Bulawayo Metropolitan police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed the incident saying investigations were still under way.
