Solomon Madzore, MDC-T Youth Assembly leader, who was arrested last week on allegations of insulting President Robert Mugabe will remain behind bars after the State opposed the granting of his bail application by the Bindura Magistrates Court today.
Madzore was arrested last week on allegations of contravening Section 33 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act after he allegedly called President Robert Mugabe a "limping donkey" at a rally in Mbire, Mashonaland Central.
Charles Kwaramba, Madzore's lawyer from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights said that Bindura Magistrate, Elisha Singano, had granted Madzore $100 bail but State Prosecutor, Munyaradzi Mataranyika, invoked Section 121 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
The section allows the State a seven day period to launch an appeal against the granting of bail to accused persons.
