Zimbabwe Independent Editor Dumisani Muleya and Chief Reporter Owen Gagare have been arrested and charged with contravening the Criminal Law Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act for allegedly publishing falsehoods in connection to a story published two weeks ago claiming the MDC was in negotiations with the military and police service chiefs.

Muleya and Gagare were this morning summoned to Harare Central Police Station's CID Law and Order Section where they were charged.

Initial probing shows that the duo was arrested for a story claiming that Morgan Tsvangirai's MDC-T is engaged in sensitive high-level talks with security service chiefs, including military commanders, ahead of crucial general elections later this year in a bid to allay fears they would be removed if President Robert Mugabe is defeated.
